The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, successfully hosted a five-day Short Term Training Programme (STTP) on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from April 1 to 5, 2025. Organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, the initiative sought to elevate academic practices and empower faculty members with the necessary competencies aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The programme commenced with an inaugural ceremony on April 1, presided over by Prof. Narendranath S., Director of NERIST, as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by several notable dignitaries including Prof. Sarsing Gao, Dean (Academic), Prof. Urmila Kar from the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, Prof. Radak Blange, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, and Prof. Arnab Bandopadyay, Institute NBA Coordinator. The event was coordinated by Dr. P. Devachandra Singh, with Dr. Piyali Das serving as co-coordinator.
Throughout the programme, expert speakers Prof. Urmila Kar and Dr. Rayapati Subbarao of NITTTR Kolkata conducted a series of comprehensive sessions. These sessions explored key aspects such as the articulation of learning outcomes, assessment design, rubric development, and the drafting of Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) required for NBA accreditation. The training witnessed active engagement from faculty members, research scholars, and students alike.
The programme concluded on April 5 with a valedictory session that featured reflections from participants and closing remarks by the organizing team and invited speakers, including Dr. Rayapati Subbarao and Prof. Madhubala Sharma, Dean (R&D), NERIST. The training initiative reaffirmed NERIST’s dedication to academic excellence and its proactive approach to fostering quality assurance in technical education.
