Electrochemical studies of cobalt(II) meso-tetrakis(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)porphyrin [CoII(T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP)] were conducted using the cyclic voltammetry technique. UV-Vis and EPR were used to investigate the reduction properties of [CoII(T(3,4,5-OCH3) PP)]. The CV data show that [CoII(T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP)] is reduced to [CoI(T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP)] and then reacts with dichloromethane to form [CoIII(T(3,4,5-OCH3)PP)]. This occurs due to electrosynthesis establishing a σ bond between the cobalt atoms and the carbon atoms in the meso position of the porphyrin.
